I know it's been forever and I'm superrrr sorry. But i've just moved back into to Manchester for uni and I thought i'd give you guys a few tips on surviving university and the big wide world. Being in my second year, I feel like i've made my mistakes and feel that I should make sure you all learn from mine.
Tip #1 - Don't buy expensive things.
This tip is the one I was sooooo glad I had read about. Pleaseeeee don't go out and buy all the nicest but slightly more expensive kitchenware and bedroom items, because you'll either break them or they'll just disappear into thing air. In my first year, I went to uni with like 2 sets of cutlery, 4 plates and numerous pans... I left with one frying pan and a spoon.
Tip #2 - Talk to people!
Just talk to anyone! Your new flatmates, your course mates, your course mates flat. The more people you know, the more fun you'll have. One thing I didn't do was to join any sports or societies, if you have something your interested in and your uni do a society for it, join!
Tip #3 - Learn to cook some dishes.
Before I went to uni, my mum bought me some "student cookbooks" and they really were not student friendly, you needed hundreds of ingredients and would cost a fortune. So I made sure I knew how to cook basic meals that I enjoyed, like chilli, spaghetti bolognese etc.
Tip #4 - BUDGET
This is probably the most important tip ever! Work out how to budget!! Make sure that after rent has been paid that you split the money left over by the number of weeks you have till your next loan. If you need a job, get one! Even if it's behind a bar for a few hours a week, at least it's some extra money coming into your pocket. University isn't a cheap life, your friends will want to go out, people will want to go for coffee or lunch and it all adds up.
No more revs lunchs until your parents come into town. |
